Do you have a wet basement? Basement Technologies of Maine can solve the wet basement problem for you. Roger Soucy, Sr. of Livermore Falls in Maine is the president of this family-run business, and his wife Denise handles the bookkeeping and manages the office with Annette. Three of the four Soucy’s sons also work with their parents to make this a successful business. Shawn, Joshua and Tobias say that they grew up climbing ladders, seeing as the family also runs Crapott’s Construction. Joshua on the other hand handles the construction part of the family business. He is foreman for Crapott’s General Contracting business and works along with the employees on the job site. When needed, he also steps into the Basement Technologies of Maine business. The youngest, Tobias, who goes by the name of “Toby”, is the “Sales Technician” for Basement Technologies of Maine. He takes his work seriously and strives to better himself all the time. He has worked on job sites with Shawn before he decided to go on the marketing road and is very knowledgeable about all aspect of the work. Toby will come to your home to give you a free estimate and will explain everything that can be done to solve your problems. He is also the one who will come to do your annual maintenance when he has a free moment. Construction in Maine can vary widely from one part of the state to another and even from house to house. Foundations made of bricks or cinderblocks are especially prone to water damage, but Basement Technologies has the solution for every wet basement problem. They know that they cannot efficiently install one product time after time and expect it to work the same for everyone. The footing size, floor thickness and soil around and under the basement are unique to each basement. Depending on the sub floor situation, they have several systems that they can install. “Every basement is different and the system is individually tailored for each customer,” says Shawn. “We don’t know what is under the floor until we open it up.” Roger states that Basement Technologies of Maine can provide products and solutions to the homeowner that cannot be found elsewhere. He adds, “ Give us any kind of basement, we can make it dry with our waterproofing system, whether it’s concrete, brick, cement blocks or even dirt!’ Waterproofing begins when Basement Technologies of Maine first arrives on a job and Toby shows the homeowner where and how the water is getting into their cellar and tells them what can be done to solve their water problem. They use a patented waterproofing system called Water Trek. The special design is guaranteed not to clog and has adjustable depth, and is also designed so that we never have to cut into your footing which is the stabilizer for your foundation. It is also designed to be unseen in your basement. After installation, you can rest assured that your basement will be dry. It’s guaranteed! Once the Water Trek system is installed around the perimeter of the basement, the water is directed to the Water Grabber Sump System Extraordinaire. When interior drainage systems are installed, they need a central ejection device, a way to get the water out of the basement. The Water Grabber guarantees that the water will always flow out of your basement and into a safe location in your yard designated by the homeowner. The system normally discharges the water to the exterior lawn, approximately 15 feet from the building, to a special Bubbler Pot, which has a drywell of stone underneath it. “The Water Grabber is the heart and lungs of our system,” Roger tells us. The pumping device is a Bell & Gossett (ITT) ½ hp cast ironpump that is corrosion resistant and is rated at 65 gallons per minute and will also pump out up to ½ inch of solids. Bell & Gossett Company specializes in heavy duty industrial/commercial pumping units and has “downsized” some of this special technology especially for Basement Technologies. The Freeze Stop Discharge Line Protector, which guarantees, in writing, that the sump discharge line will never freeze up, is then installed. An alarm will be installed in the basement to ensure that you know if the pump was unplugged accidentally. “We back it with an extended warranty for the life of the home, as long as the pump is serviced annually. The system’s guarantee is also transferable if you sell your home or it changes hands,” says Shawn Soucy. Incoming water is just one problem in a wet basement. In addition to waterproofing, Basement Technologies of Maine can also improve the climate of your basement by ridding the air of the humidity that can cause mold and other things harmful to your family’s health. The problem is solved with a Humidex BonAir Electronic Humidity Control System. You will need this system if you experience: excessive condensation on your windows; wood rot in your window frames; a damp feeling, and/or musty and stale odors in your basement, cold that extends through the floor to your feet and ankles, a need to empty your dehumidifier often or a dehumidifier that freezes in winter, or a family member who suffers from allergies caused by mold, mildew, or dust mites. Black mold is very dangerous and can be seen on walls. Mold grows behind and in walls as a result of water damage and humidity. Basement Technologies of Maine will install a full perimeter sub-floor system with a sealed “Water Grabber” lid, and a Humidex BonAir Electronic Humidity Control System to help stop future mold growth from dampness. This also includes an Ionizer Air Purifier to stop airborne mold spores.
